Home Depot Responds

Less than 12 hours after I sent my customer service inquiry re: lumber sourcing and FSC certification via the Home Depot and Lowe’s web sites, I have received a response. It is from Home Depot.

The note is a simple one:

In reference to your inquiry regarding the lumber, we recommend that you contact the Store Manager of the Southtown Home Depot store. The Store Manager will be happy to provide you with the information you are looking for.

Aha!

Wait. People in the stores stare it you as if you’re speaking in tongues when you ask questions like this.

Maybe the difference is that I haven’t spoken with the store manager. I’ll have to try that.

Still, it’s an interesting predicament. Home Depot itself can’t tell me where the lumber in a local store comes from. Or how to look for FSC certification. That’s a little scary.

Or am I being oversensitive?

No, that’s a little scary.
