Buying Recycled Computers

In Adventures on September 28, 2009 at 12:49 am

I recently did a shoot for the Small Business Monthly at an electronics retailer called EPC. EPC (Executive Personal Computers) is a huge buyer, reseller and recycler of used computers and electronics. The headquarters, a former Target store, has a retail space for Joe Public to shop for refurbed computers, printers, monitors, peripherals and anything computer related–all of it pre-owned. Behind the retail space is 60-s0me-thousand square feet of space Read the rest of this entry »

Best. Birthday Present. Ever.

In Adventures on September 5, 2009 at 8:35 am

I’m trembling with excitement as I write this. I got a new record player. Well, new to me anyway. It’s the deluxe DJ-friendly (or so I hear) Technics SL1200 MK2. It weighs a ton, which makes me feel like it’s really well made. Well made in Japan, according to the undercarriage. But it was purchased via eBay, used, already a naturalized citizen, so it’s exempt in my book. Plus, it was a gift from Dr. Shelley, so I’m not complaining even if it was brand new straight from Japan.

I bought a new phone.

Don’t worry, I’ll give it a good home.

It’s a nice phone, Molly. I wonder why you didn’t like it? Read the rest of this entry »

I will soon be wearing someone else’s shorts.

In Adventures on May 30, 2009 at 12:03 am

I will soon be wearing someone else’s shorts because I just bought some vintage shortpants. It’s hard when you’re a big guy to buy used clothes. I always say if I was normal sized I’d dress SO great. But I guess you’ll have to just take my word for it. Anyway, I found a pair of used shorts at a vintage shop in the Loop and snatched ’em up for 12 bucks. They are currently washing to remove the germs of the previous owner(s). It’s exciting to buy clothes, even if they’re crappy shorts that somebody else decided weren’t good enough for them any more.

Lens Cappery

In Adventures on April 12, 2009 at 12:46 am

I need a body cap for my Canon camera. A body cap, for those who don’t know, is like a lens cap for the camera body when the lens isn’t on it.

Normally a person in need of a body cap would go to a camera store and say “I need a body cap for my camera.” They would then be handed a body cap in exchange for $10 or so (which is an outrage for a little blob of plastic) and everybody would go about their merry way. Read the rest of this entry »
